How to reactivate your pool?

At the start of the bathing season it is necessary to perform a start-up of your pool. The aim is to ensure that all elements of the installation are prepared and in perfect condition in order to enjoy your pool throughout the season.
It is recommended that you carry out this operation at the very beginning of spring so that there is time to correct minor unforeseen problems that require the presence of professionals.

In the event that your pool incorporates a winter cover, the cover should be removed and cleaned. You should check the condition and clean the suction and impulse nozzles as well as the in-ground devices: Skimmer and gutter.
If your pool contains underwater lighting, check the operation and condition of the spotlights as well as the connection boxes.

The first step is to do a general cleaning of the premises, put all valves in the operating position.

The pump pre-filter should be cleaned and the pump started to test, set the clock and put in automatic mode.

If the filter is a sand filter, you should check the operation of the selector valve and proceed to wash the filter. In the case of cartridge filters, you should check the condition of the cartridges and clean them with a jet of water.

In the case of pools fitted with a surge tank, you should analyse the state of repair and, if necessary, carry out the washing of the tank to remove encrustations and accumulated dirt.

Once the above procedures have been carried out, you should check the correct operation of the filtration equipment by ensuring that the pump sucks the water correctly, both through the bottom drain and the skimmers, as well as the operation of the surge tank. In addition, you should check that the circuit does not have any water leakage.

In any pool, it is necessary to recondition the water after winter.

Firstly, you must fill all or part of the pool tank with new water to the level required for the recirculation system to work properly.

Next, it is important to measure the level of disinfectant (chlorine/bromine), pH and/or Alkalinity. We put the filtration system running in Manual mode.

This way, we start by regulating the pH of the pool correctly (if the level is below 7.2, we should add pH+, and the pH level is above 7.2, we should add pH-, I recommend using pH in a bucket in solid form rather than liquid.

After the pH has corrected, you should add granulated dichloro or Quick Chlorine tablets (Chlorine shock) to start a shock treatment. This treatment prevents the water from degrading, eliminates all germs and contaminants from the water, for this you must raise the disinfectant level to 5ppm.
You can use proprietary products to accelerate the disappearance of algae, such as Algicides, or products from SOS Green Water.

After chlorine level shows 5ppm, add Flocculant or Coagulant that will contribute to the clarification of the pool water.
The organic matter is deposited on the bottom of the pool which allows for better manual cleaning.

You should stop the filtration system for 12 hours.

After the filtration has been off for 12 hours, you should check for clear or slightly cloudy water and a large deposit of debris on the bottom.

After washing the filter, you should put the filtration system in manual cleaning mode to perform a suction of the pool directly into the sewer.

The suction of the pool should be done quickly, but without lifting the existing rubbish on the bottom.

It is important to note that the water level should not drop too low.

When the cleaning is finished, you should put the filter in filtration mode, reset the water level and measure again the disinfectant level and pH.

Salt Electrolysis System

In case the installation is equipped with salt electrolysis, it is recommended to check the condition of the cell and clean it if necessary. It is also important to ensure, that the by-pass valves (if any) are in the operating position.

To make the measurement of the existing salt level, you make the measurement using a salt tester and should reset the salt level.

To do the salt replenishment correctly:

1. Measure the pool size and calculate the water volume (Example: 75,000 lts (75m3)
2. The correct salt concentration in the pool should be 5gr/lt (5kg/m3)
3. If the meter indicates that there is in the pool, for example, 1gr/lt (1kg/m3), you must replenish the remaining 4gr/lt (4kg/m3) in the pool.
4. For this simply multiply the volume of water by the concentration of salt that we will have to replenish, using the example: 75m3 x 4kg/m3 = 300kg.The salt is normally supplied in 25kg bags, for this example, you should replenish the amount of 12 bags, which should be spread throughout the pool gradually and in a small quantity, preferably diluted in a bucket with water and with the filtration running.

After this moment the pool will start operating automatically, but it is important to monitor and measure the disinfectant level and pH regularly.
