SWIMMING POOL FILTERS
Pool filters are just as important as any other type of water filtration in your home. If you have a pool in your backyard you will need a filter to keep the water safe and clean for you, family and friends. Having a pool without a filter would be very dangerous and could lead to a rapid build-up of bacteria, parasites and other nuisance substances. Even if you use water disinfection systems you will need a filter in your pool.
How to choose?
The choice of filtration mode is directly linked to the requirements of your pool. The size of your pool, how many months you use it each year and the quality of the water can all contribute to making a more informed decision. Finally, your budget is also a decisive factor when choosing a filter.
Available filter types
There are three main types of pool filters, sand filters, cartridge filters and diatomaceous earth filters. The type of pool you have may dictate the type of filter you will need to use.
Sand Filters
Although not commonly used in spas, sand filters are the most popular type of pool filter. How they work is simple, they are filled about three-quarters full with controlled-grained pool sand and pumped of water by the pool pump. As the water passes through the sand it is purified of any unwanted particles before they return to the pool. Due to this process, the filter sand needs to be changed regularly to maintain optimum and effective filtration.
