Birm® is an efficient and economical means for the reduction of dissolved iron and manganese compounds from raw water.

can be used in water treatment systems powered by gravity or pressurized. Birm acts as an insoluble catalyst to enhance the reaction between dissolved oxygen (D.O.) and iron compounds. In groundwater, iron is generally dissolved in the state of ferrous bicarbonate due to free carbon dioxide and excess is not filterable. Birm, acting as a catalyst between oxygen and soluble iron compounds, enhances the oxidation of Fe ++ to Fe +++ and produces ferric hydroxide which precipitates and can be filtered easily.

The physical characteristics of Birm provide an excellent filter medium, which is easily cleaned with a subsequent washing to remove the precipitant. Birm is not consumed in the iron removal operation and therefore offers a tremendous economic advantage over many other iron removal methods.
